External Catheters

An external catheter is a type of urinary catheter that is attached to the outside of the body and is used to collect urine in a bag. External catheters are typically used by men and are often used in combination with a condom-like device to hold the catheter in place. They are typically used when an individual is unable to empty their bladder on their own, due to a medical condition or surgical procedure. External catheters are an alternative to other types of catheters, such as indwelling catheters and intermittent catheters, which are inserted into the body. External catheters have the advantage of being less invasive and easier to use, but they can also carry risks such as skin irritation and the risk of infection if they are not properly cared for.
