Description

The Anasept Antimicrobial Skin and Wound Gel is a clear, amorphous, isotonic hydrogel that keeps a wound bed moist while delivering 0.057% sodium hypochlorite antimicrobial activity. It donates moisture to dry wounds and absorbs light exudate from draining ones, so the same tube supports both sides of the moisture balance. Two tube sizes, 1.5 oz and 3 oz, come in cases of 12 for clinics, wound centers and home care programs.

  • Moisture balancing hydrogel – donates moisture to dry wound beds and absorbs exudate from draining wounds
  • Antimicrobial while it hydrates – 0.057% sodium hypochlorite inhibits common wound bacteria, including MRSA and VRE, and fungi
  • Long working life – a 2 year shelf life, and the gel stays active for 14 weeks after first use
  • Latex free formula – clear and amorphous, so the wound bed stays visible through the gel layer

A Hydrogel That Manages Moisture and Microbes Together

Dry and minimally draining wounds need a dressing that adds moisture without sealing the wound off from assessment, and this gel is built for exactly that role. Its clear, amorphous consistency spreads over the wound bed in a layer about 1/8 to 3/16 inch thick and conforms to the wound shape instead of bridging over it. While it holds that moist environment, the sodium hypochlorite in the formula works against the bacteria and fungi that colonize chronic wounds. Because the gel is isotonic and non-cytotoxic in profile, it can be used daily until the wound closes, on both skin sites and deeper wounds under professional supervision. The gel also supports autolytic debridement, softening nonviable tissue so it can be removed at dressing changes. Tubes are sized for single patient use across a course of care, with the 3 oz tube suited to larger or longer running wounds.

Features and Benefits

Moisture Management

  • Donates or absorbs – the hydrogel gives moisture to dry wounds and takes up exudate from draining wounds
  • Autolytic debridement support – sustained moisture softens slough and nonviable tissue between dressing changes
  • Transparent layer – the clear gel keeps the wound bed visible without removing the dressing

Antimicrobial Action

  • 0.057% sodium hypochlorite – broad spectrum antimicrobial activity in an isotonic, tissue compatible base
  • Resistant strains included – inhibits MRSA and Vancomycin resistant Enterococcus faecalis (VRE) in addition to common wound organisms

Why Choose This Antimicrobial Hydrogel from MedicalEx?

Most hydrogels only manage moisture, leaving antimicrobial control to a second product and a second step. This gel combines both jobs in one tube, which simplifies the dressing protocol for dry to minimally exudating wounds. Its 14 week active life after first use also means a tube opened for one patient keeps working across that patient’s dressing changes instead of being discarded early.

  • Two jobs, one tube – moisture donation and antimicrobial action in a single application step
  • Long in use life – 14 weeks of activity after first use reduces waste on multi week treatment plans
  • Reimbursable format – carries HCPCS code A6248 for hydrogel wound filler billing

Manuals and Troubleshooting Guides

Frequently Asked Questions

How thick should the gel be applied?

For wounds, apply a generous layer about 1/8 to 3/16 inch thick directly onto the wound bed after cleansing. For skin sites such as exit sites, a thin layer is enough, repeated as necessary.

Which wounds is this gel intended for?

It suits dry to minimal exudating wounds, including stage I to IV pressure ulcers, partial and full thickness wounds, diabetic foot and leg ulcers, post-surgical wounds, and first and second degree burns under professional supervision. Over the counter it is used for abrasions, lacerations, minor irritations, cuts, exit sites and intact skin.

How long does a tube stay usable after opening?

The gel has a 2 year shelf life and remains active for 14 weeks after first use. Store the tube at normal room temperature, 77°F or lower, and do not freeze it.

Can it be used under a silver dressing?

No. The manufacturer advises avoiding wound dressings that contain silver or other heavy metals over this gel, because the sodium chloride in the formula converts silver to insoluble silver chloride and inactivates it. Choose a plain gauze or non-metal secondary dressing instead.

Does the gel contain latex?

No, the gel is latex free. It is also clear and amorphous, so clinicians can see the wound bed through the applied layer.

What secondary dressing should cover it?

Cover the gel with sterile gauze or another appropriate secondary dressing and secure it in place. Maintain a moist wound environment between dressing changes, and reapply gel at each change.
