Main Description
The Maryland jaw instruments bring the LigaSure seal to a curved, tapered jaw that doubles as a dissector, so one instrument handles dissection, vessel sealing and division. The jaw surface carries a nonstick nano coating of hexamethyldisiloxane applied by vapor deposition, which reduces tissue sticking and eschar buildup during repeated seals. Like the wider family, the devices seal vessels up to and including 7 mm and are used across general, gynecologic, urologic and thoracic lists. A dedicated thoracic configuration is the first minimally invasive LigaSure device indicated for sealing pulmonary arteries and veins up to 7 mm. The instruments run on the Valleylab FT10 platform and compatible generators, are sterile and single use, six per case as listed.
Features and Benefits
- Dissect and seal in one – The Maryland shape spreads and dissects tissue planes, then seals and divides without an instrument exchange.
- Nano coated jaws – The nonstick coating targets the sticking and jaw cleaning interruptions that slow sealing work.
- Thoracic indication – The thoracic variant is indicated for pulmonary vessels, a first for the minimally invasive line.
- Curved precision – The tapered curve follows tissue planes and improves visibility at the jaw tip.

Why Choose This Product
Maryland jaw instruments are the versatile pick of the LigaSure range because they dissect as well as they seal. The nano coating answers the most common complaint about sealing instruments, jaw sticking during long cases.
- Fewer exchanges – Dissection plus sealing plus division in one instrument is the workflow differentiator.
- Cleaner jaws, faster cases – Reduced eschar buildup means fewer pauses to clean jaws mid-case.
- Pulmonary rated option – The thoracic model opens VATS lists that standard sealers are not indicated for.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the nano coating do?
It is a nonstick hexamethyldisiloxane layer vapor-deposited on the jaws that reduces tissue sticking and eschar accumulation. That keeps seals consistent and reduces how often the surgeon must stop to clean the jaws.
Is the Maryland jaw only for laparoscopic work?
No. The family includes open and laparoscopic configurations, and the thoracic model is designed for video-assisted thoracic surgery. The configuration label states each instrument's length and intended approach.
Is this device sterile and single use?
Yes. It is supplied sterile for single use unless its label states otherwise, and it must not be reprocessed or reused. Check the package integrity and expiry before every case.
How should this device be stored?
Store it in its original packaging under normal room conditions away from heat sources and moisture. Rotate stock by expiry date and quarantine any unit with damaged packaging.
What if a configuration I need is not listed?
The configurations shown are the ones carried in this catalog for this product line. If a case needs a different size or load, contact us before ordering so the right configuration can be confirmed rather than substituted at the table.
