About These Valve Mouthpieces
A standard mouthpiece is an open tube in both directions, which is a problem when a startled patient gasps inward mid maneuver. This design adds a one way valve with an 8 point peripheral support that creates a complete seal as the patient exhales. If the patient attempts to inhale, the valve closes completely and interrupts the airflow. That interruption helps prevent the passage of airborne infectious particles through the device, which is the cross infection threat the design exists to stop. Air resistance stays very low on the exhale side, and the smooth design keeps the patient comfortable in cardboard or flexible plastic models.
