Description
The VanishPoint IV Catheter uses patented automated retraction to pull its introducer needle into the housing before the needle is withdrawn from the catheter. A slight depression of the color-coded needle housing activates the mechanism, so the contaminated introducer never travels exposed across the patient or the tray.
- Retracting Introducer – The introducer needle retracts into the housing on activation, minimizing exposure to the contaminated sharp.
- Color-Coded Gauges – Both the catheter hub and the housing are color-coded, so the gauge reads from either end of the device.
- Push-Off Tab – The tab facilitates one-handed catheter advancement and indicates bevel orientation.
- Radiopaque PUR – The polyurethane catheter is radiopaque for placement confirmation.
Safety IV Catheters with a Retracting Introducer
IV starts pair a sharp introducer with a soft catheter, and the introducer is the part that endangers staff once the catheter is seated. This design keeps the standard insertion sequence, with clear finger grips and a flashback chamber for handling and blood return confirmation. Before the introducer is withdrawn, the clinician depresses the end of the housing and the needle retracts inside it.
Six configurations run from 14G for rapid infusion down to 24G for fragile veins, all in radiopaque polyurethane. The sharp introducer is designed for insertion ease and patient comfort, and activation is one-handed so the other hand can stabilize the catheter. Catheters pack 50 per box and 200 per case.
Features and Benefits
Automated Retraction
- Housing Activation – A slight depression of the needle housing triggers retraction before withdrawal.
- One-Handed Activation – The free hand stays on the catheter hub to stabilize placement during activation.
- Safe Through Disposal – Once activated, the needle remains retracted inside the housing through disposal.
Insertion Control
- Flashback Chamber – Clear grips and chamber support handling ease and flashback visualization.
- Push-Off Tab – The tab supports one-handed advancement and shows bevel orientation.
- Color-Coded Hub and Housing – Gauge identification appears at both ends of the device.

Why Choose VanishPoint IV Catheter?
Peripheral IV placement is one of the most common sharps tasks in the hospital, and the introducer needle is exposed on every single start. A catheter that swallows its own introducer removes that exposure without retraining the insertion itself.
- Protected Withdrawals – The introducer is inside the housing before it leaves the catheter hub.
- Familiar Insertion – Grips, flashback and the push-off tab mirror standard catheter handling.
- Retraction Inside the Catheter Class – Most safety catheters shield the tip, while this design retracts the needle fully into the housing.
- Full Gauge Range – Six gauges cover rapid infusion through fragile-vein access on one platform.
Manuals and Troubleshooting Guides
Frequently Asked Questions
How is the retraction activated?
After the catheter is advanced, depress the color-coded end of the needle housing before withdrawing the introducer. The needle retracts automatically into the housing, which is then disposed of in a sharps container.
Does this catheter change standard insertion technique?
No. Venipuncture, flashback confirmation and catheter advancement follow the standard sequence, and the push-off tab supports one-handed advancement.
What material is the catheter made from?
The catheter is radiopaque polyurethane, abbreviated PUR. Radiopacity supports placement confirmation when imaging is used.
Which gauges are available?
Configurations cover 14G, 16G, 18G, 20G, 22G and 24G. Lengths run from 3/4 in on the 24G to 1 1/4 in on the larger gauges.
How are the catheters packed?
Each case holds 200 catheters, packed 50 per box in four boxes. All six configurations are sold by the full case.
